I first started realizing proper black hair housekeeping in October of 2005 reading the book, Ultra Black Haircare Growth by Cathy Howse. That book started me on an eye-opening journey towards realizing why I could failed to grow my then ear-length plus some damaged hair past can range f length.
The first thing most people Black women do wrong as it pertains to taking care of their hair is that they do not moisturize often enough or if the right products to moisturize with. Black hair is naturally the driest kind of hair you will find because the curl pattern causes it to be difficult for sebum to nourish the total hair strand. Therefore, why don't we add extra moisture. A good moisturizers for black seals list water or glycerin since first ingredient. For example of this, I personally use Nexxus Headress Ignite Leave-in Conditioner. In generic, hair grease products from them petroleum or mineral oil your first ingredient should be avoided because they do not moisturize, but instead merely coat the head of hair strands and block the pores of the scalp, causing buildup along with being attracting dirt.
The subject of dirt brings me to the next thing that black women do wrong when caring to build a hair--they do not wash their head of hair often enough. A lot of black women I know (and I had been one of them), will only wash their hair once a month because they believe a myth that water dries their head of hair out even more knowning that frequent washing causes breakage. This isnt true. Water is the best moisturizer of all moisturizers, but when you if you will allow the hair dry without putting anything in the gift hair to keep your moisture in, all the moisture evaporates with the air, leaving your hair even drier than rrt had been you washed it. Make sure you add a moisturizer, associated with an oil (I use Extra virgin olive oil mostly, but there are hundreds of oils at your disposal! ) before drying your hair to keep moisture in and steer clear of dryness. I wash my hair about once a week. Some black women wash their hair every day or every other day and it is extra, healthy and strong. Btw, air drying is with regard to black hair mainly because of the third and final topic I will expose.
Excessive heat is a great huge reason black women have damaged hair. Blow hairdryers, curling irons, flat irons and hot combs greatest dryness in our hair worse and results in breakage and damage. The less heat and manipulation you put your hair through, the better it will look! But remember alternatives to using heat personal self hair like rollers, wrapping, and air drying.
By following these as well as other Black hair care techniques to increase, my hair is in these days almost arm pit length--the longest (and healthiest) it has ever been in my life!
